Claire Cummins Lorenz is a native Texan, a graduate of the University of Virginia, and a French teacher at a large public middle school in Houston, Texas. She is also the author of Hit by a Truck: A Roadmap to Saving Money and Powering Through Divorce.
Claire has spent her career educating and encouraging others. As both a teacher and a parent, she believes that information, preparation, and shared experiences can help people navigate life’s most difficult challenges.
After experiencing divorce herself, Claire realized that many people facing divorce feel overwhelmed, isolated, and unprepared for the financial and emotional decisions ahead. She wrote Hit by a Truck to provide practical guidance, encouragement, and real-life stories for those navigating the divorce process, particularly those experiencing divorce later in life.
With gray divorce continuing to rise in the United States, Claire is passionate about helping others understand the financial realities of divorce, organize the information they need, and move forward with confidence.
When she is not teaching, writing, or working on new projects, Claire enjoys long walks, spending time with friends and family, and keeping up with her four children, son-in-law, and grandson. She remains grateful for the support and friendship of the women from her DivorceCare group, whose encouragement helped inspire both her healing journey and her writing.
“My hope is that readers facing divorce will feel more informed, organized, and empowered as they navigate one of life’s most challenging transitions.”
